January 1, 2022

Hello and God bless all the wonderful people of the Virgin Islands.

2021 was a year of ups and downs for the Virgin Islands and we continue to face unprecedented challenges. which were not made by us and are largely out of our control and originated far beyond our shores. But our indomitable spirit and sense of community, which are some of our greatest strengths as the Virgin Islands, have supported us through these troubled times.

To conclude this chapter in 2021, let us remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. We continue to pray for their families. As the people of BVILOVE, we continue to support each other in overcoming the difficulties of recent years – from Irma to the pandemic. We can and will do it, because together – and with our God by our side – nothing is impossible.

Over the past few months, through your government’s policies and management strategies and the collaboration of all stakeholders in the public and private sectors, the economy of the Virgin Islands has continued to flourish. Our tourism industry, which is still in high demand, is seeing increasing visitor numbers. Cruise arrivals, day trippers, overnight guests, yachts and charter visitors are on the rise despite the pandemic. Air travel to Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Anegada are now more convenient and accessible. All of this means good news for our accommodations, taxi and tour operators, restaurants and bars and vendors, government revenues – and the economy as a whole. To God the glory.

Your government has carried out a number of large and small projects to stimulate economic activity, support local businesses, improve our infrastructure, help create jobs, and improve and expand services for our people. Much has been done and work is ongoing.

The new year 2022 awaits us with a new budget to support our continued economic recovery and growth. Many other projects and programs are already pending for implementation with others in the advanced stages of preparation. Opportunities from new industries such as gaming and betting are just around the corner. Your government intends to work even more closely with the private sector to discover and open up more opportunities. The digital economy and green energy sectors are two of the top priority areas as we continue to work to further build our resilience through diversification. The positive trends in tourism are expected to continue once we remain vigilant and maintain the profile of the Virgin Islands as a safe travel destination. In short, 2022 is on the verge of being a year of hope, opportunity and resurgence for the Virgin Islands, and we ask God that it will stay that way.

As Prime Minister, it is my commitment for 2022 – and that of your government, to continue to work hard to promote good governance and transform the Virgin Islands into a leading regional economy through entrepreneurship, innovation and local and foreign investment so that we can create more opportunities for you and your children and to improve your social and economic security and the general quality of life.

As a people of immense potential and blessed with amazing natural resources, let us choose to work together for the development of our beloved Virgin Islands. Let us strive to inspire, encourage, and support one another. Let’s use our strengths and opportunities to neutralize our threats and weaknesses. Let us work solution-oriented, respectfully and constructively through different perspectives.

Let’s make 2022 a successful year for the Virgin Islands together.

We start the year 2022 with a TIME OF PRICE and GIVING.
