New platform to support tenants with pets in their search for rental properties has been introduced

The world’s first pet referencing platform was launched to make it easier for tenants with pets to find rental properties.

Although pet ownership is at an “all-time high” in history, less than seven percent of UK rental homes accept renters with pets – and millions are at risk of being evicted or abandoning their cat or dog.

However, the new PetsScore risk assessment and referencing service is intended to be a “force for change” in the rental market and make it easier for landlords to assess the risk of damage.

In addition to creating a “pet profile” with information about their animal such as microchip number, breed, vaccinations, medical treatments and training, owners can also obtain references from former landlords, landlords or even holiday hosts.




This information is then used to create a unique “PetsScore” that can be shared with anyone you wish to rent from and that is recalculated and updated in real time based on new references.

The online platform was founded by tech pro and former landlady Natasha Homer-Earley after she struggled to find accommodation that would accommodate her dog Daisy.

Founder Natasha told TeamDogs: “We are on the brink of disaster for Britain’s pets and their owners.

“Pet ownership is at an all-time high, climbing the real estate ladder has never been more out of reach for millions, and there is a gap between the availability of pet-friendly rentals and the overwhelming demand for them.

“We want to be a driving force for change in a market that is traditionally tired of tenants with pets – and make it easier for landlords to assess and measure the potential risk of a would-be renter’s cat or dog with just a few clicks.”

The service applies to short stays such as Airbnb and to longer leases.

In addition, the platform is to be expanded to include an insurance element that enables tenants, whose pets do not do so well, to be insured against damage.
