Sassuolo vs. Inter Milan Setup, Previous Lineups & Injury News:

Sassuolo got off to a strange start to the 2021/22 Serie A season and is currently 12th after six games, three points ahead of the early relegation zone. Alessio Dionisi’s men were involved in a thriller on the opening weekend, defeating Hellas Verona 3-2, but then there were four games without a win. A draw with Sampdoria before the international break preceded three straight defeats against Roma, Turin and Atalanta, which put Sassuolo in danger early on. However, last weekend they managed to stop the rot and beat Salernitana 1-0 thanks to Domenico Berardi’s goal in the second half.

Inter Milan, meanwhile, got off to a good start to hold the Serie A title for the first time since 2010, which would also bring them 20th. Despite the change in leadership, Inter have pretty much started where they left off, earning 14 points from their first six games and one of three teams that are unbeaten in Serie A. Inter started the season with emphatic wins against Genoa and Verona and let a draw with Samporia not stop them, narrowly beating Bologna 6-1 a few weeks earlier. Another win against Fiorentina followed, but last weekend they lost points for the second time as they had to come back against Atalanta to get a draw. In the Champions League, however, things did not go so well for Inter Nerazzurri Took just one point in their first two games, lost to Real Madrid and drew against Shakhtar Donetsk in the middle of the week.

  • Sassuolo (against Salernitana): Consigli; Muldur, Chiriches, Ferrari, Rogerio; Frattesi, Lopez; Berardi, Djuricic, Boga; Raspadori.
  • Inter Milan (against Shakhtar Donetsk): Handanovic; Bastoni, De Vrij, Skriniar; Dumfries, Vecino, Barella, Brozovic, Dimarco; Dzeko, Martinez.

Inter Milan survived the midweek game against Shakhtar unscathed, but will likely have to do without Arturo Vidal and Stefano Sensi. Pedro Obiang is the only absent from Sassuolo.

Players to be seen:

  • Sassuolo: The hosts may not have the best record against the bigger teams this season, but in Domenico Berardi they have someone who can cause problems. The Italian striker was heavily linked to a Sassuolo move in the summer but they couldn’t afford to leave him and Manuel Locatelli in the same window so Berardi stayed for the time being. Maybe it’s the best too, certainly for this game, as Berardi has been directly involved in 10 goals in his last 10 Serie A games against teams, starting the matchday in the top 3, scoring seven goals and providing three more assists.
  • Inter Milan: Under Inzaghi, Inter are a real threat to the future and are only the second Serie A team to have scored more than 20 goals in their first six games of a season this century (after Napoli 2017/18). One of the stars of the free scoring attack was Edin Dzekowho made sure Inter didn’t miss Romelu Lukaku too much. The seasoned striker has the biggest difference between goals scored (five) and expected goals (2.4) in Serie A this season, scoring five goals in their first six league games for Roma for the first time since 2017. Dzeko also goes into this game after scoring in each of his last three Serie A games, his best form since December / January last season (also three games in a row).
